Fear is stopping you?
Sometimes you have that. That you can burst with pride.
And not for what you have done yourself (for many women, being proud of oneself is quite a thing anyway), but for what someone you love has done, like your child.
This weekend I was so very proud of my daughter Emilia. And she also taught me a wise lesson.
Emilia turns 12 this week and her joy and life are horses. Ever since toddlerhood, horseback riding has been her great love. And a few times a week she can be found at the riding school to ride.
She shares this love with her father Maurizio.
Brave
Now Maurizio fell off horse Aurea over a year ago. With serious consequences: hospitalization, a hefty surgery and a long rehabilitation.
Last Saturday Emilia was told that she would be riding Aurea for the first time since the accident. A big golden horse. That horse that her father had thus thrown off her back.
You can imagine she really had to swallow. After all, to her, Aurea was linked to fractures, hospital, pain and misery. Emilia was therefore secretly furiously nervous.
And where most would say, “No way you’re going to get me up there,” Emilia did what she wanted to do. She bravely stepped over her fear and ignored all the nasty “what if” thoughts.
Trusting your own ability
And what I found so incredibly clever about her: she didn’t make her father’s experience her own. She trusted the horse and her own ability. Her desire was greater than her fear. And she subsequently rode magnificently.
And this got me thinking….
How often do we actually let fear hold us back, expecting worst case scenarios and negative brooding?
How often do we sabotage ourselves and not do the things we enjoy? Do we put off doing the things that make our heart skip a beat and our fire burn? And how often do we assume we can’t, shouldn’t, don’t dare, or don’t know?
Emilia showed me that regardless of the stories of the past, you can always write and live a new story of your own.
That if you trust your intuition, your own power and your passion that it is right. That it is right and will be right. And even allowed to be fun.
Lost connection
Now most of us have lost connection to our own story, our own talents, our own passion, and our own intuition. Do we live life the way we are expected to or do we allow ourselves to be guided by the opinions of others. And in doing so, many of us are living only a fraction of our potential.
