The festering cause of survival mode

‘Ambitious women struggling with burnout don’t need coaching, but someone to come clean their house, a meal box, or a babysitter. So that something is taken off their plate, instead of added to it.’

So wrote a business coach on her Facebook.

Obviously meant to provoke a lot of reactions.

And yet, she got me thinking.

I get what she is saying, and at the same time, this is also the festering problem of why so many women stay stuck and in survival mode.

And why so many women have tried everything but are disappointed again and again.

Why so many coaches fail….

QUICK-FIXES

 

Action taking

The moment you are in survival mode, stressed, insecure, traumatized and frustrated you are “switched on”.

The moment you are stuck, panicking and unhappy, you, like many women, may take action.

You start doing things:

Work even harder to prove you can handle it.

Flip the calendar and plan tightly just to have some feeling of control.

Endlessly diving into podcasts, blogs, webinars, and books to find a possible quick insight and easy solution.

Snapping at husband and kids to take some pressure off.

Arranging that help, meal box, or babysitter to make your life a little easier.

We think that because we start or stop doing things differently, things in our lives will change and we will feel differently.

But this is an illusion. A quick-fix.

And not sustainable.

Because before you know it, you’ve just fallen back into your old patterns and blocks.

 

Don’t do but think

In fact, your blockages do not arise from what you do or do not do. But arise because of what you deep-down think, believe and feel.

After all, if you keep thinking what you have always thought, you keep believing what you have always believed. If you keep believing what you have always believed, you keep doing what you have always done. If you keep doing what you’ve been doing, what always happened to you keeps happening to you.

You can imagine that when you feel insecure, scared and not good enough you do or don’t do very different things than when you feel confident, secure and strong.

And because you have your own blind spots.

And it’s really hard to do that on your own, so gather your courage and call in a coach or therapist.
