Are you looking forward or backward?
I was about 12 years old I think. My mother had a thriving recruitment business for female professionals. I was always looking over her shoulder. I loved it. I could sit on the couch for hours with thick multi-folders of resumes around me, looking for the women I felt would be a good fit for the job openings.
Now that I look back on it, I was already busy with meaning, fulfillment, doing what you were born to do, and purpose. And most of all I was tuning in and empathizing.
Years later… I was working as a headhunter at one of the largest executive search firms in the world. I was looking for the right people for the highest positions. And in doing so, I didn’t look so much at what was written in the resume, but at the whole picture, the common thread and the “energy” behind the words. I just felt if it was right or not.
Unhappy
And honestly, I had forgotten this intimate sense of what someone was born to do. I had started to focus more and more on where someone came from and wants to go away from, instead of where someone wants to go and longs for. After all, we as humans often know much better what we no longer want than what we do want.
However, it is as if many women continue to ride upside down in the seat in their car. They keep looking at where they came from. Keep focusing on their past stories, but forget to turn around and look forward. But how can you arrive at your next destination if you don’t know where you are driving to?
For example, I read in the Forbes that more-than half (!) of the women are and remain unhappy because they gave up on their dreams. Because many women prefer to play it safe, because well, house and mortgage have to be paid, children taken care of, and they don’t really know what else to do.
But it still gnaws at them. Deep down, that vague feeling of dissatisfaction, being unfulfilled, dullness… As if something is missing. As if a fire is almost extinguished.
Recognizable?
Purpose
Then it’s time to find, ignite and embrace your inner fire. And start doing what makes you feel that you are truly alive. Ask yourself: what dreams have I ever had that made my heart beat faster?
Stop letting hassle, convenience or comfort hold you back. You have a fire in your soul and a burning heart and nothing or no one should extinguish it. After all, it is your calling, your purpose, your dream.
Stop settling for mediocrity. Don’t be deterred by challenges or obstacles in your path. You deserve magic, love and happiness – you just need to start believing in it and soul searching.
Daring to go live your dreams is not an exercise where you revisit your resume. It is a combination of deeply understanding and connecting with all facets of yourself.
So it is high time to reconnect with yourself and your deep inner knowing. With that inexhaustible source of information that you have deep inside and that offers you unconditional support and help in challenging situations. Who helps you in your decisions. Who gives you answers and shows you the way. And who brings you flow, creativity and fulfillment. So that you can let go and really trust yourself. So that you can start doing what you really have to do and make your dreams come true.
Do you want that?
